Adoption Interest Meeting

The Family Advocacy Ministry (FAM) will be hosting an informational gathering about adoption on Sunday, December 8th during the first service in the Fellowship Hall. This will be a time for families to connect from every stage in the process—from “just thinking about it” to post-adoption. After a conversational breakfast together, we will hear from families who have adopted through private agencies and the Department of Social Services, as well as adults who were adopted and have adopted siblings. We will also provide opportunities for families to think about next steps and learn about the support our ministry offers for adoption.

Creation Care Interest Meeting

Creation Care Interest Meeting

According to recent research conducted by NCCU and Duke, Durham ranks 75th of the top 100 developed cities in our country when it comes to access to quality groceries. One interesting and exciting way that Durham is attempting to heal this tension and address this injustice is by waving many zoning laws in relation to what can be grown in a private home garden. This empowers individuals to use their family homes as urban farms to grow produce throughout the farming season.

Christ Central Church seeks to join the city of Durham in addressing this injustice. As such, we are exploring a Creation Care ministry. Creation Care will empower individuals and communities to grow their own food by planting gardens on their properties when requested to do so. For those of our congregation that are not food insecure, we ask that you join us by planting a produce garden or allowing us to plant one in your space, and donating the harvest to our neighborhood food kitchens. Creation care can also be a wonderfully spiritual activity, as we use our hands to tend to God’s creations, just as Adam and Eve were once called to do the same.

If this is something that interests you, please sign up for our interest meeting at Duke Park after service on Sunday, October 13th!
