At Christ Central, we seek to be a community that welcomes diverse people with diverse viewpoints. We place a high value on engaging with diversity. Still, the church can often be where it is most difficult to participate in constructive dialogue when met with a different point of view. Join us this summer as we discuss why the church is uniquely positioned to model convicted civility and learn what habits of heart and mind we need to do so. We will explore why this can feel particularly hard to do within our congregation and how we can use the Bible as our basis for reasoning more carefully and compassionately when we disagree.
We will open our summer fellowships with Professor Molly Worthen, who will speak to what engaging constructively looks like and how, as a believer, she is uniquely called to pursue this in her church and her community- in places where she has built relationships. Molly Worthen is an associate professor of history at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a freelance journalist. She received her BA and PhD from Yale University. Her research focuses on North American religious and intellectual history. Worthen lectures widely on religion and politics and teaches courses on North American religious and intellectual culture, global Christianity, and the history of ideas. Hear Molly’s testimony here!
